Grom Fest is an event that Powder Mountain Resort puts on for the up and coming young shredders. This is our home hill here at Gnarwalls. I, Amberlee, learned how to ski at PowMow back in the 80's. My parents signed my older brother and myself up for Panda Ski School when I was just eight years old. Fast forward 30+ years I'm skiing those same hills with my little's. I get all teary eyed watching them compete in Powder Mountain's Grom Fest every Winter. I love to see my kids doing something competitive and watching them push themselves to do their very best is so rewarding as a parent. When my 9 year old daughter took 1st place last year she said, "I knew I could do it!" She wanted to take a podium spot just like her older siblings had done in the past years event.
Grom Fest is for the littler rippers from toddler on up to 12 year olds. Pictured below on the left is my snowboarder son and on the right my skiing daughter at the 2015 Fest!
The groms compete in two different courses. One is a timed slalom course and the second is a slopestyle set up. The event is for all skill levels for both skiers and snowboarders. They divide up between girl and boy shredders then divide them up again by ages to divvy up the winnings and awards. As a spectator plan on bringing a chair, a camera and some good uplifting chants. As parents, we all cheer for each others kid and everyone really does walk away a winner. In the past we all get a slice of pizza from Lucky Slice Pizza. Buy a day lift ticket and that gets your kids into Grom Fest for free. So gather your kids and neighbors and plan on attending at least one of the two dates.
I'm going to be honest, our kids have won something every year and man do they come home with some goods. They've been outfitted with coats, skis and apparel from the big name sponsors to the smaller local sponsors. My two oldest, now 14 year old boy/girl twins, have out grown Grom Fest. My 9 year old daughter will compete this year and we are looking forward to it. It looks like they have two dates set for this years events; January 27th and February 24th. So bring your Grom and all your Grom buddies and celebrate the Gromlife!
Whether you’re a Breckenridge pass holder, Epic pass holder or loyal employee, it’s going to be a great opening weekend. Back in mid-September,Breckenridge received an early Fall snow, combine that with a lot of snowmaking and it is going to be off-piste.
